At Authentic Bengal Cats our goal is to help you answer all of your Bengal cat questions and solve your problems.
One of the most common reports we get from readers is that their Bengal cat scratches and damages their furniture.
We have covered this topic in the past on a few articles, particularly:
- Will a Bengal cat destroy my house? (In this article we look at the topic from the perspective of a prospective Bengal cat owner).
- Best anti scratch spray for Bengal cats – in this piece we look at the best repellent spray for your Bengal.
- How to stop your Bengal cat from attacking your furniture – here we cover a number of steps you can take to minimise the chances of your Bengal destroying your furniture (including training, products and more)
A common way to stop your cat from attacking your furniture is to use anti scratch tape.
This is a form of clear tape that you attach to your furniture (often around the base/sides/legs) to prevent your cat from scratching.
The way it works is actually very simple – most scratch deterrent tapes are double sided and come in rolls or sheets.
You attach this to your furniture – e.g. couch – where your Bengal cat is scratching.
Your cat can try and scratch the tape but it is unpleasant for them and doesn’t allow them to “grip” correctly with their claws (which then defeats the purpose of scratching in the first place).
What you are also supposed to do at the same time is supply your Bengal cat with a positive alternative, such as a proper scratching post. You can then encourage your Bengal to scratch the post instead, after they try (and ultimately fail) to scratch your furniture with the anti-scratch tape applied. What Is The Best Scratch Deterrent Tape For Bengal Cats?
Now that we’ve covered how anti-scratch tape works, it’s time to take a look at what the best option is for your Bengal cat.
The great thing here is that there are so many excellent choices available for reasonable prices.
Scratch repellent tape is generally regarded as one of the more effective ways of preventing your Bengal cat from damaging your furniture as it is a physical barrier (as opposed to anti-scratch spray, which is easier to use and less noticeable but often less reliable).
Having looked at a number of options, we think that the EdenPets Premium anti-scratch tape that is available on Amazon.com is one of the best options out there.
You get 10 extra large sheets per pack (17” x 12”) and as this is a double-sided tape product you don’t need any pins, stitches or anything like that.
This is one of the best rated repellent tapes on the market, and is affordably priced – with the large sheet size and high number of sheets per pack, as well as solid quality – it represents one of the best options if you are looking for anti scratch tape for your Bengal cat.
You can check it out here on Amazon.com and purchase your own pack on there.
There are also plenty of other options available you might like to consider as well, although we do think that the EdenPets option is well worth trying first.
Remember that it is also critical to have a good scratching post for you Bengal cat as you need to encourage them to use that instead of trying to scratch your furniture. Check out our guide to the best scratching posts for Bengal cats here.
